Liza Wallace

Liza Wallace brings a new dimension to the harp’s role in contemporary music, striving to expand the possibilities for this unique instrument in jazz, classical, folk, Latin American, and world music. Liza grew up immersed in the vibrant musical culture of the San Francisco Bay Area and now is based in Los Angeles.  Her work as a composer and arranger incorporates classical and jazz influences with Central and South American styles including music from Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba, and MexicoLiza has released two albums of her music, Carousel in 2009 and Waken in 2013.  In addition to giving solo performances, she plays with her trio, Primary Colors.  Primary Colors released their first album in fall 2017.  Liza is also an active freelance musician in Los Angeles and has performed with many LA based orchestras at venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Grand Performances in Downtown LA.  Liza has worked and performed with such Grammy award winning artists as Pop icon Sir Elton John, Musical Theater star Kristin Chenoweth, Salsa composer/pianist Gonzalo Grau, Tango bassist Pablo Aslan, Opera/Jazz singer Sylvia McNair, and Flamenco guitarist Adam del Monte. She is an award winning composer and has presented her compositions at harp festivals in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Germany.  She will be featured in the NYC Harp Festival this coming spring 2019.

Liza holds a Bachelor’s of Music with High Distinction from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music where she studied with Dr. Susann McDonald and Prof. Elzbieta Szmyt. I.U. awarded her the Performance Certificate for outstanding musicianship and performance ability on her graduation recital. In May 2015, she completed her Master's of Music at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music where she was the Assistant Harp Instructor to Prof. JoAnn Turovsky.  Music education has always been an important component to Liza’s career and she is a dedicated harp, voice, and general music instructor. Classes with Liza incorporate technical studies and classical repertoire in addition to an exploration of world music genres and contemporary music. Liza always strives to help each student find their unique voice and encourages students to also compose as well as perform.
