Juan Rivera

Juan Rivera is a classical/electric guitarist and composer from Santa Cruz, CA. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance and Music Education with a minor in Music Industry from UCLA. Throughout his studies, Juan has performed with a wide variety of ensembles that include the old-time string ensemble, mariachi, early music, guitar ensemble and has collaborated with an eclectic roster of instrumentalist in addition to premiering numerous works of LA based composers and from around the world. During his undergraduate studies, Juan had the opportunity to design and teach an undergraduate seminar through the USIE program (Undergraduate Student Initiated Education) where he taught a class on guitar history and styles. As a graduate student, he has also participated in TEDx UCLA 2018 as a speaker/performer.

Juan is currently serving as music director at the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood through the UCLA Music Partnership Program and is a Gluck Outreach Fellow performing in schools, libraries, retirement homes, and at a children’s hospital. 

In addition, Juan has won several awards most notably the Randy Rhoads Guitar Memorial Scholarship, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Elaine Krown Klein Scholarship, and the Mimi Alpert Feldman Scholarship. As student of Peter Yates, he recently completed his Master of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Juan plans to continue performing, teaching and pursue doctoral studies in musicology.
