Thompson Wang, 15, is a 9th grade student at the Crossroads school for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica. He started his first violin lessons at the age of four. Since the summer of 2012, he has been under the guidance of Samuel Fischer at the Colburn School of Performing Arts.
From 2012 to 2014, Thompson won several awards in different competitions: MTAC VOCE state final (second place), Satori String Competition (first place), SYMF Competition (first place), and the ASTA SoCal Final (first place), advancing to the 2014 state finals in Sacramento. This year, he received first place for both the Westside Concerto Competition and the Junior Chamber Music Concerto Competition in Orange County, resulting in performances with the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra and the Orange County Symphony Orchestra. In May 2015, he was selected to perform on an Honors Recital at Colburn School's Zipper Hall. He has also been awarded Scholarships from the Young Musicians Foundation and the Palisades Symphony Concerto Competition.Thompson has participated for three years in Junior Chamber Music in Orange County, and in 2014 was selected to participate in the YMF Chamber Music Series. His trio ensemble was selected to perform on a Colburn School Honors Recital, as well as at LACMA's Bing Theatre. Every summer, he has participated in various music festivals, including the Montecito Musical Festival and San Luis Obispo Strings workshop, where he has served in the position of concertmaster.
Thompson has participated in numerous masterclasses with renowned violinists Almita Vamos, Emanuel Borok, and Linda Wang. He has also participated in chamber music masterclasses taught by Lorenz Gamma, Susan Boettger, Joon-Sung Jun, and David Garrett.
Aside from music, Thompson enjoys playing basketball with friends. Thompson's dream is to pursue a career as a violinist and share his love of music with different audiences.
