National Debut Concerto Competition

About the Competition

For 56 years, the YMF National Debut Concerto Competition has provided talented musicians with solo performances with the Debut Orchestra and the National Orchestra Camp, along with a significant cash prize to further their studies. Youth 25 and under are eligible to audition for the annual National Debut Concerto Competition.

A panel of professional musicians and the Conductor of the Debut Orchestra select young musicians to perform a concerto with the Debut Orchestra during the upcoming season. More than 180 renowned musicians have had their earliest solo experience as a winner of this prestigious competition. Awards include a performance opportunity with the Debut Orchestra and honorariums ranging from $500 to $2,000.

Past winners include pianist Edward Auer, soprano Shirley Verrett, guitarist Christopher Parkening, pianist Misha Dichter, New York Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow, cellist Nathaniel Rosen, Boston Symphony Principal Flutist Elizabeth Rowe, and violin soloist Leila Josefowicz.
