Artistic Management Training Program

The lack of trained, professional arts managers and administrators is of great concern to the classical music world today. For this reason, YMF offers on-the-job training positions through its Artistic Management Training Program.

Previous YMF Debut Orchestra Manager’s and Librarians have used these positions as a stepping-stone to significant career accomplishments including:

Debut Orchestra Manager

Duties include:

  • Coordinate/schedule annual auditions for the Debut Orchestra
  • Manage the orchestra’s active/substitute roster
  • Contract the orchestra for 5 season concerts, a gala fundraiser, at least 2 outreach concerts and any other special orchestra projects
  • Arrange for all rehearsal space and equipment needed for each concert
  • Manage and submit orchestra payroll
  • Manage and submit vendor invoices
  • Set up and attend all rehearsals and concerts
  • Work closely with the Music Director/Conductor & Orchestra Librarian
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of the 2011 Music Director/Conductor Search
  • Coordinate Music Advisory Board meetings
  • Attend all production and staff meetings

This is a part-time, paid contract position.

Debut Orchestra Librarian

  • Responsible for purchase, rental and preparation of scores and parts for all rehearsals and performances.
  • Work with Music Director and Conductors in selecting performing editions.
  • Coordinate getting parts bowed by principal players.
  • Responsible for all markings including bowing, cuts or other editing.
  • Ensure that all parts are readable and any page turn adjustments are made prior to rehearsals and at the request of musicians.
  • Distribute parts to musicians.
  • Attend all rehearsals and concerts
  • Responsible for uploading and organizing practice parts to be available on the website for download at least 6 weeks in advance.
  • Maintain library of music holdings & record repertoire performance archive data.
