Los Angeles based drummer and percussionist Nick Stone has made his career performing across the world, from America to Zululand. He has performed in venues from Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
A native of LA, he performs with many different ensembles around Southern California including The Echo Society, The New West Symphony, The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, The Southeast Symphony, and The Southern California Brass Consortium as well as theater groups such as the La Mirada Theatre and the Garry Marshall Theatre. As a drummer he currently plays with Cockeyed Optimist and Do Something.
For two years he was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra as Co-Principal Timpani and Principal Percussion. With this group he toured across South Africa and to Europe.
Conductors he has worked under include Leonard Slatkin, David Robertson, Michael Stern, JoAnn Falleta, Robert Spano, and Rossen Milanov. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University where his teachers included Gerald Carlyss, Kevin Bobo, and Steve Houghton and received his Master's Degree from Rutgers University, studying with Joe Tompkins and Markus Rhoten. He additionally studied Afro-Cuban percussion with Michael Spiro and Javier Diaz.
